Mystery Creek Community Catchment

The Mystery Creek Community Catchment is a collaborative environmental initiative led by the Society and its local community.
The Society heads initiatives that include:
Biodiversity Management Plan
A Waikato Regional Council funded initiative, that resulted in a plan being created and signed off for work to ensure the restoration of the land at and around Mystery Creek Events Centre is preserved for future generations. Funding is now being sought to execute the plan.
Speaker Engagement Series
A speaker series aimed at showcasing the Society's work in sustainability and responsible management. It began with two lectures at the Management School at the University of Waikato in 2025, and the team have since presented at Rotary meetings, local Chamber of Commerce gatherings and more, to educate, inspire, and engage communities across Aotearoa.
MBIE Climate Study – Waikato River
The Society is supporting a five-year MBIE-funded study by Lincoln Agritech on the effects of climate change on the Waikato River. A monitoring device was installed at the Mystery Creek jetty, following a mihi and karakia with iwi and researchers held in March 2025.
Predator-Free
Our long-standing predator-free volunteer team continues to contribute across the site with pest trapping and monitoring.
Weed Busters and Heritage Village Gardeners
Both teams meet fortnightly and are making a visible difference. New volunteers are always welcome; learn more and get in touch if you'd like to join.
The Sustainable Futures Youth Programme
Connecting schools, communities, and iwi through hands-on workshops, real-world projects, and student-led leadership opportunities. By amplifying youth voices and fostering collaboration, the programme inspires rangatahi to protect biodiversity, champion sustainability, and shape a resilient future for Aotearoa.
