Volunteering
Join the New Zealand National Fieldays Society as a valued volunteer
Volunteering is a great way to build new skills, gain experience and meet people. It can lift your wellbeing and give you a strong sense of purpose. The Society welcomes volunteers from all walks of life, at any age and stage.
Opportunities
Volunteers play a vital role in the Society all year round. Many help keep Mystery Creek in good shape through grounds upkeep, small maintenance tasks and general organising. Others support our conservation work with weed control, planting days and environmental care. Predator Free also relies on volunteers who help with trapping and monitoring. These ongoing roles make a real difference to the site and to our customers.
Fieldays then brings another chance to be involved. In 2025, 151 volunteers filled 472 shifts, helping keep the event preparation and the four days of Fieldays running well. Their work supports everything from visitor welcome points to key activity areas, and their commitment reflects the strong community spirit that has guided the Society since our early years.
Why volunteer with us
Volunteering with the Society is a chance to build skills, meet new people and take part in work that feels meaningful. You will be welcomed into a supportive team and appreciated for your time.
We make sure our volunteers feel prepared and supported. Before Fieldays, we hold a briefing evening and offer online app training through the Rosterfy portal. Rosterfy makes it easy to sign up, manage shifts and stay informed. New volunteers can join the buddy system to get extra guidance. In December each year, members, volunteers and staff come together at our AGM and Awards event to recognise the effort shown across the year.
