Sustainable Futures Youth Programme
Te Kaupapa Rangatahi mō ngā Taiao Toitū
Growing eco-resilient rangatahi to lead sustainability across environmental, social, and economic change in their communities.
The Sustainable Futures Youth Programme is an environmental education and leadership initiative for Year 7 & 8 students, designed to inspire, equip, and empower the next generation of ecological guardians across Aotearoa.
Delivered by the New Zealand National Fieldays Society, the programme brings together schools, iwi, community groups, and industry to create immersive, hands‑on learning experiences that help students understand and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Through practical workshops, real-world problem solving, field investigations, and interactive storytelling, students explore biodiversity, soil and water health, climate resilience, and sustainable land practices in meaningful, place-based ways.
It is a leadership journey for rangatahi, helping Year 7 & 8 students grow confidence, teamwork, communication skills, and the ability to think creatively about complex environmental challenges. As students collaborate with experts, scientists, farmers, cultural leaders, and each other, they learn how to design solutions, take action, and use their voice to create positive change.
