NZNFS proudly presents a four-day biodiversity workshop series at the Heritage Village, Mystery Creek.
Each day dives into a key theme—water, micro-organisms, plants, or animals—through the UN’s three pillars of sustainability: environmental, economic, and social.
We blend mātauranga Māori with Western science, using systems thinking to build critical thinking and deepen understanding of the natural world and its forces. Sessions are interactive, led by rangatahi, and powered by our cheeky AI host, Pat the Bat.
Year 7–8 Science Objectives Supported:
- Special Characteristics: Explore how isolation and ecology shaped NZ’s unique flora & fauna.
- Living Processes: Experiments and observations link pH, temperature, and habitat to species survival.
- Investigations: Rangatahi design and conduct investigations—observe, measure, record, and reflect.
Supporting the Year 8–9 Transition: We introduce Year 8–9 concepts—ecological systems, plant biology, sustainability frameworks, and economics—using age-appropriate language to ease students into secondary science.
Supporting the Year 9–10 Transition: We introduce Year 9–10 concepts—ecological systems, plant biology, sustainability frameworks, and economics—using age-appropriate language to ease students into secondary science.
