Try these fun, safe, and planet-friendly activities right from your home!
Test the pH of Water
Materials:
- Red cabbage
- Hot water
- Clear cups
- Lemon juice, baking soda, tap water
Steps:
- Pat says, "Chop that cabbage like a science chef!"
- Soak it in hot water and watch the magic brew.
- Strain the purple juice and pour into clear cups.
- Add a spoon of lemon juice in one—Whoa! Pink fizz!
- Try baking soda next—Boom, blue burst!
- You've just revealed acids and bases, like a true Bat-chemist!
Build a Mini Water Filter
Materials:
- Plastic bottle
- Sand, gravel, cotton
- Dirty water (from soil)
Steps:
- Snip off the top of the bottle like a pro scientist.
- Layer in cotton, sand, and gravel. Pat-approved filtration!
- Pour in murky water and watch the magic flow.
- "Not drinkable yet!" warns Pat, but great for learning!
Water Cycle in a Bag
Materials:
- Ziplock bag
- Water
- Blue food color
- Window tape
Steps:
- Mix water with a drop of blue—boom, rain juice!
- Seal it in a bag and tape it to a sunny window.
- Watch as droplets form—Pat says, "That's condensation!"
- Welcome to the mini water world
Mini Greenhouse
Materials:
- Plastic bottle
- Soil
- Seeds (beans or herbs)
- Sunlight!
Steps:
- Cut the bottle and fill the bottom with soil.
- Plant seeds and water lightly.
- Place the top back like a dome—ta-da, a mini greenhouse!
- Pat says, "Photosynthesis party, anyone?"
Catch CO₂ Bubbles!
Materials:
- Balloon
- Bottle
- Baking soda and vinegar
Steps:
- Add baking soda to the bottle, pour vinegar in—whoosh!
- Trap the balloon on top and watch it inflate.
- Pat explains, "CO₂ gas is here! Science is in the air!"
Make a Rain Cloud in a Jar
Materials:
- Jar of water
- Shaving cream
- Blue food coloring
- Dropper
Steps:
- Top the jar with shaving cream—fluffy like Pat’s fur!
- Drop colored water on top and wait...
- Rainfall happens below—science magic from the sky!
- Pat winks, “Now you’ve forecasted fun!”
