Environmental Sustainability: MRS in Motion
Become a plant scientist and uncover the hidden superpowers of plants!
Watch real plants in action, carry out experiments, and gather evidence to discover how plants move, respond to their surroundings, and make the energy they need to survive. You'll also investigate why different plants have adapted to thrive in different environments across Aotearoa.
Your mission is to:
- Discover how plants demonstrate Movement, Respiration, and Sensitivity (MRS in MRS GREN).
- Observe experiments, spot patterns, and think like a scientist.
- Compare how different plants survive in different environments.
Economic Sustainability: Trade Titans
Become a business leader and see if you can build the strongest supply chain!
Trade with businesses to turn raw plant materials into finished products. Along the way, unexpected events will test your teamwork and decision-making as you discover how businesses help support New Zealand's economy.
Your mission is to:
- Build a complete supply chain from raw materials to customers.
- Trade and negotiate with other teams.
- Make smart decisions that balance profit with sustainability.
Social Sustainability: Conservation Court
Become an Environment Court juror and help decide the future of a forest.
You'll hear evidence from different groups with different opinions before deciding whether native bush should be replaced with fast-growing pine trees. There isn't one "correct" answer, you'll need to listen carefully, weigh up the evidence, and decide what you believe is the fairest outcome.
Your mission is to:
- Listen to different perspectives.
- Consider the environmental, social, and economic impacts.
- Use evidence to explain and defend your decision.
The Final Challenge
Throughout the day, you'll earn clues by completing each workshop. At the end of the programme, you'll put all the clues together to solve a final logic puzzle and discover how everything you've learned about science, business, people, and nature fits together.
