Student growth journey
A leadership pathway for students who demonstrate enthusiasm for sustainability through the Sustainable Futures Youth Programme, designed to grow capability, connection, and confidence.
A three-tiered leadership pathway to nurture future rural and environmental leaders.
Students are selected and invited to join the leadership pathway.
Liaisons (Tier 1) – connecting schools and the Society
Ambassadors (Tier 2) – mentoring and leading small groups
Leaders (Tier 3) – helping facilitate sessions and support delivery
We thank Waikato Farmers Trust for supporting the Sustainable Futures Youth Programme and the student growth journey, which will form part of the Fieldays Youth Leadership Pathway.
Liaisons (Tier 1)
Each school will nominate one liaison who represents their school, engages with the programme and NZNFS, and begins developing foundational leadership skills. Before the workshop, these students (and their teachers) will meet with Society staff to collaborate on workshop preparation and learn key definitions. After the workshop, liaisons and teachers will gather and assess feedback and provide recommendations for improvement.
Ambassadors (Tier 2)
Students who have completed Tier 1 and moved on to college are invited to return as youth ambassadors. In this role, they help deliver the programme, mentor younger participants, and continue developing their leadership skills. Many past students have told us they wished they could stay involved after attending the workshops, which inspired the creation of this tier.
Leaders (Tier 3)
Year 11 senior leaders and agribusiness students from St Paul’s Collegiate lead and deliver educational sessions during workshops.
