INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT STRENGTHENS RESILIENCE AT MYSTERY CREEK EVENTS CENTRE
The New Zealand National Fieldays Society has secured a $1.35 million loan from the Regional Infrastructure Fund to upgrade the water reticulation system at Mystery Creek Events Centre, supporting the venue’s long-term capacity to host major events such as Fieldays. The $3.2 million project is now underway and will be completed ahead of Fieldays 2026.
The upgrade will strengthen the reliability and resilience of water supply across the site, ensuring the venue remains safe, accessible, and fit for purpose. Mystery Creek Events Centre has been operating as an events venue for more than five decades and plays a critical role not only as the home of Fieldays, but also as a key civil defence location for the Waikato region, where it would serve as a logistics and supply hub during a large-scale emergency.
This investment recognises the importance of resilient infrastructure in supporting both regional communities and nationally significant events. Mystery Creek Events Centre is a key asset for the Waikato, and this upgrade will help ensure it continues to operate effectively in both everyday use and emergency response situations.
“This is a critical upgrade for the site, and we are grateful for the support from central government, recognising Mystery Creek as a significant venue for New Zealand,” said Richard Lindroos, Chief Executive of the Society. “Reliable infrastructure underpins everything we do, from delivering Fieldays to supporting the region in times of need. This investment helps future-proof the site for generations to come.”
The project forms part of the Society’s long-term approach to infrastructure planning, ensuring Mystery Creek Events Centre continues to deliver shared outcomes for the agricultural sector, event organisers, and the wider community.
